Light discoloration to edges of boards, with some edge-rubbing. The paper spine labels are chipped, more so to volume I, but are quite legible. The blue-grey endpapers do not appear original, but consistent with the original endpapers. Both volumes bound in the same manner as the Constable first printing: blue-grey papered boards with linen spines. Two volume set in publisher's original binding.
